I've known this for the past 10 years, but I had a bit of an epiphany recently that I truly love to cook. I don't express my emotions well, but when I cook from my heart you can taste the love in my food. 💖</p>
<p dir="ltr">The downside to this passion for cooking is all the damn dishes that need to be washed. I'm slooooowly learning the art of mindful cleaning though. </p>
<p dir="ltr">This week my favorite meals were a crustless quiche (aka egg pie) and baked fish tacos. I wasn't sure if Ruby would like the fish.....she asked for more "chicken" until it was all gone! Haha! Last night's enchiladas were pretty darn good too.</p>
<p dir="ltr">Back in the day I used to share the occasional recipe here. If anyone is still around and would like me to share, I'd be happy to! </p>
<p dir="ltr">Have a beautiful night, friends.</p>

I've heard of their program before and am even on the waitlist in case they start a branch here in Douglas, Wyoming, but I've never really explored their website before. They have a whole section of DIY activities which you can narrow down by child's age and time of year!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Scrolling through the 4 year old-appropriate winter activities I found these fun ice crystals. Considering it has been well below freezing all week I thought I'd give it a try. Finding water balloons in our small town in winter was a bit of a challenge, but Jake did eventually find some. After a bit of trial and error I found a quick and easy method for making these fun "crystals"!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Here are some of my tips:<br>
• Wear an apron and gloves, otherwise your hands (and/or clothes) will still be covered in food coloring like mine. 😉<br>
• Hold the balloon by the opening and pinch it only slightly to add the dye. I found the best way for me was to let gravity do the work, let the balloon hang gently in your fingers and once you've added the dye let it slide down before adding water. It makes for a little less mess!<br>
• One drop of food coloring is plenty to get a beautiful colored crystal. With a few I added 2 drops and they just got dye all over everything when I cut the balloon off the frozen crystal.</p>
<p dir="ltr">We left the balloons out overnight and in the morning Ruby got outside first and hid a bunch of them in the snow so I haven't actually found many to cut the balloon off of, but I did find a few and she had a blast hiding the balloons. That's a win in my book. Haha!</p>
<p dir="ltr">Let me know if you try this activity too. I want to hear how your crystals turned out! Enjoy!</p>

Ruby sure has grown over the past couple years! Playing soccer, designing jack-o-lanterns, traveling the world, opening a LuLaRoe home boutique, it's been a wild couple of years!Sharonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05431402009079304345noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4776387874996972930.post-27458560464418174342015-07-30T11:17:00.000-06:002015-07-30T11:17:03.424-06:00New Socks and More!<div xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
It's only been a few days since Tour de Fleece ended, but my momentum to get things done is still going strong! I am working through my WiPs list and am very happy with my progress so far.<br />
<br />
Right before TdF started I cast on a pair of socks for Jake. I used a Crazy Zauberball that the amazing <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Quiltopedia-Laura-Jane-Taylor/dp/1845435354">Laura Jane Taylor</a> brought when she came with Jennifer (aka @sugar_stitches) & me to Sewing Summit 2012!<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oWIkmd5BeTI/VbpVpa8auoI/AAAAAAAADjg/Vrbw7Ut2VLk/s2560/1438275055606.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-oWIkmd5BeTI/VbpVpa8auoI/AAAAAAAADjg/Vrbw7Ut2VLk/s350/1438275055606.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Instead of using a pattern I made a hybrid sock using my favorite elements from other patterns that I've made. <br />
Here's my toe-up formula:<br />
*Judy's Magic Cast On<br />
*Rounded toe from OrangeKnits <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/rose-city-rollers" target="_blank">Rose City Rollers</a> pattern (this was a little tricky because her pattern is cuff down so I had to figure the decreases from 72 stitches, for Jake's wide foot, then reversed it for toe-up)<br />
*Stockinette foot<br />
*Short-row heel from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Socks-Toe-Up-Essential-Techniques/dp/0307449440" target="_blank">Wendy Johnson's "Socks from the Toe Up"</a><br />
*Decrease to 64 stitches for a skinnier ankle/leg<br />
*Stockinette leg<br />
*1x1 ribbing<br />
*Jeny's Surprisingly Stretchy Bind Off<br />
<br />
He hasn't had a chance to try them on since I finished them, but he did try on the first sock when I was nearing the ribbing and it looks like it'll be a great fit for him!<br />
<br />
This week I also scoured, carded, & started to spin up a sample of a fleece that I recently received. <br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4KFSk6sDSKU/VbpVwf3RFjI/AAAAAAAADjo/UW2Sm20eaXQ/s2560/1438275104732.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4KFSk6sDSKU/VbpVwf3RFjI/AAAAAAAADjo/UW2Sm20eaXQ/s350/1438275104732.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Pu6KYo3RBZI/VbpV16OE0OI/AAAAAAAADjw/NaWrLQ3TsYk/s2560/1438275130209.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-Pu6KYo3RBZI/VbpV16OE0OI/AAAAAAAADjw/NaWrLQ3TsYk/s350/1438275130209.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tw6n87aNMKY/VbpV7bNxh5I/AAAAAAAADj4/ZIYR8ThJ8aE/s2560/1438275153278.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-tw6n87aNMKY/VbpV7bNxh5I/AAAAAAAADj4/ZIYR8ThJ8aE/s350/1438275153278.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
The fleece is a gorgeous rambouillet out of the eastern Oregon/Idaho area. I have a long way to go still, it's nearly 8 pounds & I've only pulled off 5 ounces to sample, but I'm already planning lots of fun things to make from it! First up is a hat & mittens set for Kim, who sent me this beauty!!<br />
<br />
And, last but not least, I'm halfway through binding Ruby's rainbow quilt. <br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2kx97uy-LCg/VbpV_-J1R9I/AAAAAAAADkA/M71pfn3RXYs/s2560/1438275174650.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-2kx97uy-LCg/VbpV_-J1R9I/AAAAAAAADkA/M71pfn3RXYs/s350/1438275174650.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
It should be done and ready to use by the weekend!<br />
<br />

This year was my first Tour de Fleece and it was so much fun! My personal challenge was to complete as many skeins as I could during the race. A seemingly simple challenge, but I tend to get *this close* to finishing a project then moving on to something else. My workroom is filled with nearly finished projects as proof of this! But more on that at the end.<br />
<br />
I joined the Aaron Makes Stuff team and, though we were allowed to use other spindles, I used only my AMS spindles and wheel plied the singles on my Kromski Minstrel. It was a small team, but everyone did such a beautiful job! Check out the #tdfaaronmakesstuff hashtag on IG to see.<br />

O'er the Moors & Among the Heathers from The Wooly Witch- 5.2oz, 406yds. 3-ply DK weight.<br />
<br />
Total yards spun (singles & plying): 1630<br />
<br />
This will be a top for Ruby, I'm looking at either Bloom or Belle Isle. This yarn is probably my favorite from the tour and now I really want to spin a sweater's quantity for myself!<br />

Book of the Dead from The Wooly Witch- 2.6oz, 218yds. 3-ply DK/worsted.<br />
<br />
Total yards spun during TdF (One of the singles was spun prior to the tour): 654<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B2NdGBcES-8/Vba3jefWyVI/AAAAAAAADhg/l-o2WJV_K3c/s2560/1438037983997.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-B2NdGBcES-8/Vba3jefWyVI/AAAAAAAADhg/l-o2WJV_K3c/s350/1438037983997.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Rainbow Sherbet- 3.0oz, 199yds. 3-ply DK weight.<br />
<br />
Leftovers:<br />
Orange/Green- 8yds of 2-ply<br />
Orange- 0.4oz estimated yardage of 50yds<br />
<br />
Total yards spun: 854<br />
<br />
Orange is Pumpkin Spice Latte from The Wooly Witch, pink is Giovanna also from The Wooly Witch, & green is Creme de Menthe from Textiles a Mano that a friend picked up for me at Estes Park Wool Market this year.<br />
<br />
I was unsure how the three colors would look once plied (I worried that it would look muddy), but the green is such a strong color that I think the pink and orange balance it nicely. As you can see with the orange & green 2-ply, the green really dominates the yarn. <br />
<br />
This yarn will likely become a beanie for Ruby. She loves to wear the ribbed hat I made last year for Jake, so she needs one of her own!<br />
<br />

Peacock Feathers from Siobhans Crafts (gradient) & FleegleFiber (semi solid teal)- 3.7oz, 284yds. Chain plied sport weight. Self-striping gradient<br />
Total yards spun: 1136<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DlwOwiyW_Pk/Vba3wjTe3LI/AAAAAAAADhw/Vu87gF5GjQ4/s2560/1438038047088.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DlwOwiyW_Pk/Vba3wjTe3LI/AAAAAAAADhw/Vu87gF5GjQ4/s350/1438038047088.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Port Fiber batt- 0.5oz of singles spun.<br />
Approx. 50yds<br />
<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lQEXNm8p6Jk/Vba34k8M80I/AAAAAAAADh4/-ZF_vOyy0hA/s2560/1438038072946.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-lQEXNm8p6Jk/Vba34k8M80I/AAAAAAAADh4/-ZF_vOyy0hA/s350/1438038072946.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
And then there was the drop spindle & captured ring russian...<br />
<br />
I am such a slow drop spinner, I feel like I put hours into this yarn and only spun 0.2oz of it! Yes, it is super duper thin cobweb lace weight, but still...! The fiber is Malabrigo that I carded to blend the colors a bit and unfelt the fiber. I'm unsure of the colorway name, but it sure matches beautifully with the spindle!<br />
<br />
Approx. 25yds spun (probably much more, but I'd rather err on the low side).<br />
<br />
As for the gorgeous padauk russian spindle, I am coming to terms with the fact that we just don't get along. I am a huge fan of Aaron's work and to have a spindle that I can't spin to my liking breaks my heart! But, I guess, not every spindle can work for every person. I am determined to finish the blue fiber that's on there now before I destash it though!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9g6lu5FL9WY/Vba38z0VB2I/AAAAAAAADiA/eG4o2k1sTHA/s2560/1438038105001.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="http://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9g6lu5FL9WY/Vba38z0VB2I/AAAAAAAADiA/eG4o2k1sTHA/s350/1438038105001.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
Total TdF yards: ~4350!!<br />
<br />
I'm extra excited about that total because in that time we also had guests, went to a family reunion, took several daytrips, & went down to Cheyenne Frontier Days! It's been quite a month and I've enjoyed every minute of it!!<br />
<br />
I'm going to try to keep the momentum of Tour de Fleece going by finishing up some of those previously mentioned WiPs. I'm going to start small, but hopefully I can get this and much more done by the end of August!<br />
<br />
August crafting goals:<br />
Old WiPs<br />
* Finish combing & spin NZ Romney<br />
* Finish Jake's socks<br />
* Bind & label Rainbow quilt<br />
<br />
New<br />
* Scour, card, & spin a sample of brown fleece from Kim<br />
* Enter yarn or batt into Wyo state fair<br />
* #spin15in15 August challenge - spin a precious (quivit?)<br />
<br />
Other August goals (home, family, etc):<br />
* Clean out old Jeep for donation<br />
* Finish reading The Wind Through the Keyhole<br />
* Shred old papers & organize office<br />
* Take Ruby to State Fair<br />
* Go fishing!<br />
<br />
LET'S DO THIS!!<br />
<br />

<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9oarzh9ZtWA/VIKs5ii3xCI/AAAAAAAADd8/s9BQstw-h80/s2560/1417850081266.png' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-9oarzh9ZtWA/VIKs5ii3xCI/AAAAAAAADd8/s9BQstw-h80/s400/1417850081266.png' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
But then because I was dealing with a junky temporary phone while waiting for my insurance to replace the phone I killed on Halloween, I forgot to post what I actually made.<br/>
<br/>
Sidenote: Don't drop your phone screen down onto a rocky driveway! The worst part about it was I couldn't even share pictures of my adorable flower and her farmer heading out for trick or treating!!<br/>
<br/>
But I can now! Aren't they cute?<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hNieJd2xW-M/VIKs9Rp_GuI/AAAAAAAADeE/Zka-_VVmhwE/s2560/1417850096135.png' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-hNieJd2xW-M/VIKs9Rp_GuI/AAAAAAAADeE/Zka-_VVmhwE/s400/1417850096135.png' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
Anyway, I participated in our regional Make It With Wool competition again this year and decided to sew something. <br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6wo4z1l3scI/VIKtCCeQ8iI/AAAAAAAADeM/UeWwyE2ImrI/s2560/1417850110857.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-6wo4z1l3scI/VIKtCCeQ8iI/AAAAAAAADeM/UeWwyE2ImrI/s400/1417850110857.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I watched Prudent Baby's cape tutorial video then started cutting into my precious wool. <br/>
<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Qv3k73swElY/VIKtIfooPdI/AAAAAAAADeU/1T3D1er4RI4/s2560/1417850128821.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-Qv3k73swElY/VIKtIfooPdI/AAAAAAAADeU/1T3D1er4RI4/s400/1417850128821.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I decided to edge it with some Pendleton selvedge that my LYS friend gave me the last time we were up in Dubois. Then I pulled out my Albama Chanin handsewing book to find a good embroidery stitch to add a little more flair. <br/>
<br/>
Because I am not confident in my garment making I hand sewed the seams. Though I did make french seams for a neater look inside. <br/>
<br/>
Except for the seam stitching the whole garment (accessory?) is 100% wool. Even the yarn I used to embroider the selvedge is wool that I had naturally dyed in avocado pits earlier this year.<br/>
<br/>
We didn't win this year, but it sure was fun to make. And as you can see, Ruby kinda likes it too!<br/>

I was so excited and thankful when Lindsay invited me to join in another round of Craft Book Month with Craft Buds!<br />
<br />
And then I hit my first snag. I own many beautiful craft books, but nothing seemed to inspire me. Finally last week I was sitting in our chair under the big picture window when I looked up at our regular book shelf I saw a children's book, "Phoebe's Sweater", written by the talented knit designer Joanna Johnson and illustrated by her husband, Eric.<br />
<br />
But "Phoebe's Sweater" is not just a children's story, it is also a knitting book with patterns for a cozy hooded girl's coat, a stuffed mouse with dress, and a matching coat for the doll.<br />
<br />
I immediately grabbed my skein of Plucky Sweater in Dandy Lion and cast on!<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jEtpveXbTnA/VApD2ra_4TI/AAAAAAAADaE/iAZpIErw1KM/s2560/1409958847832.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-jEtpveXbTnA/VApD2ra_4TI/AAAAAAAADaE/iAZpIErw1KM/s400/1409958847832.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<br />
The illustrations in the story are just beautiful! And it's a fun tale about a girl becoming a big sister and the sweater her mama knits for her in the meantime. Even if you don't knit, it's still a great book to have in your collection.<br />
<br />
Ruby is still a little rough on books, but with this one she just sits and delicately flips through the pages over & over again.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4bQ6M5lSkwg/VApD7Evc5AI/AAAAAAAADaM/ZmuT_ms1PBA/s2560/1409958884341.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-4bQ6M5lSkwg/VApD7Evc5AI/AAAAAAAADaM/ZmuT_ms1PBA/s400/1409958884341.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JLl7_Djz7L0/VApD_uBJtxI/AAAAAAAADaU/o_YHzC20zto/s2560/1409958901805.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-JLl7_Djz7L0/VApD_uBJtxI/AAAAAAAADaU/o_YHzC20zto/s400/1409958901805.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lXKdNxD2AtE/VApEDdLo0SI/AAAAAAAADac/2sOv_h4l0uo/s2560/1409958920214.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}"><img border="0" src="https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-lXKdNxD2AtE/VApEDdLo0SI/AAAAAAAADac/2sOv_h4l0uo/s400/1409958920214.jpeg" style="cursor: hand; cursor: pointer; display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a><br />
<br />
Yesterday when I was attaching the ears I sewed them too low and realized that as cute as the mouse is in the pattern, this doll would make an adorable monkey for my little monkey! So I made a wool felt monkey face and stitched it onto the head.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-BVUraT9KcbQ/VApER6dU5dI/AAAAAAAADa0/-FUqPn0ioYE/s2560/1409958969871.jpeg" onblur="try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-BVUraT9KcbQ/VApER6dU5dI/AAAAAAAADa0/-FUqPn0ioYE/s400/1409958969871.jpeg" style="display: block; margin: 0px auto 10px; text-align: center;" /></a></div>
<br />
The inside of the ears and the dress (still in progress because I've had a sick toddler all week) are made with Plucky 4-ply cashmere in Before You Go-Go. The stuffing I used is a wool roving. So this doll is really the softest, squishiest thing ever!!<br />
<br />

If you're here for my Craft Book Month post please be sure to stop back again a little later. I'm having technical difficulties (or I should more accurately say toddler difficulties) getting my post up. <br/>

Jake finally seems to have a set schedule at work, Thursday and Friday off. But since he works nights we have almost 3 full days to do stuff. Friday was our "Sunday" so we decided to go for a drive and look for good fishing spots. Now that we live near the North Platte, Jake is picking up fly fishing again and I'm learning how to fish too. We even got Ruby a cute Buzz Lightyear kid's pole last week!<br/>
<br/>
We took the back roads down to Glendo Reservoir, stopping at turnouts along the way. The lake has been drained really low this year so we just watched the boaters for a few minutes before getting shakes at the gas station in town. <br/>
<br/>
On the way home Ruby got sick so we pulled off the county road to clean her up and take a little break. While we were there the train came by, which Ruby really enjoyed. Honestly, we all enjoyed it. Very much!<br/><p style='font-size: xx-small' align='right'>posted from <a href='https://market.android.com/details?id=pl.przemelek.android.blogger'>Bloggeroid</a></p></div>Sharonhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/05431402009079304345noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4776387874996972930.post-2312478683690868462014-08-11T15:59:00.001-06:002014-08-11T15:59:41.155-06:00Ch-ch-ch-changes!<div xmlns='http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml'>I don't even know where to begin! Things have changed so much for us in the past few months. The super short version is Jake got his commercial driver's license, he now drives truck in the oil fields & often works 70-80 hours/week, we bought a house just outside of town, and Ruby is a 15 month old maniac! :)<br/>
<br/>
Now that we're all caught up I feel like I can finally move forward here. I have written so many blog posts in my head it's ridiculous! But I always feel like I need to explain where I've been hiding first and just couldn't come up with the right words.<br/>

I haven't spun since <a href='http://www.spinningdaily.com/blogs/connection/archive/2013/07/12/tour-de-fleece-2013-are-you-game.aspx'>Tour de Fleece</a> last summer and even then it was only a bobbin or two. I've been itching to get my wheel out, but I was worried that Ruby would want to play with it too much. Once I saw the #spunday hashtag I knew that it was time to start spinning again.<br/>
<br/>
So I spun...<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ggMQas9TExM/UxpvBN5-dcI/AAAAAAAADSY/XTZoA2D95-0/s2560/1394241266459.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-ggMQas9TExM/UxpvBN5-dcI/AAAAAAAADSY/XTZoA2D95-0/s288/1394241266459.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 192px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
And spun...<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-d6hlEguq4-k/UxpvGW-1G9I/AAAAAAAADSg/DKPhiWWiMAk/s2560/1394241286809.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-d6hlEguq4-k/UxpvGW-1G9I/AAAAAAAADSg/DKPhiWWiMAk/s288/1394241286809.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8ar7C72HU0k/UxpvMSDEtFI/AAAAAAAADSo/KvIUwNCTRpc/s2560/1394241308052.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-8ar7C72HU0k/UxpvMSDEtFI/AAAAAAAADSo/KvIUwNCTRpc/s288/1394241308052.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
And spun!<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-uXz2zRQvSX4/UxpvQzFQqgI/AAAAAAAADSw/TlP7tMhLY4g/s2560/1394241331259.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-uXz2zRQvSX4/UxpvQzFQqgI/AAAAAAAADSw/TlP7tMhLY4g/s288/1394241331259.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3Vpx5WbKhxs/UxpvW873vSI/AAAAAAAADS4/nxU1p4NujcU/s2560/1394241348801.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-3Vpx5WbKhxs/UxpvW873vSI/AAAAAAAADS4/nxU1p4NujcU/s288/1394241348801.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
And Ruby did great! Her favorite thing is either sitting and watching the wheel turn or standing between my legs to watch me draft the fiber. <br/>
<br/>
In <a href='https://www.etsy.com/shop/APrairieSunriseShop'>shop</a> news I still have some handspun yarn listed and I just added <a href='https://www.etsy.com/shop/APrairieSunriseShop?section_id=15137079'>stitch markers</a> as well. They snag-free markers made with gorgeous book charms & accent beads and fit needles up to US10.5 (6.5mm). And there are lots of "books" to choose from! :-)<br/>
<br/>
Thanks for visiting! <br/>

<br/>
A few weeks ago I discovered that my favorite fabric designer, <a href='http://lizzyhouse.com/'>Lizzy House</a>, was hosting a dress making contest in her newest line, Catnap. I had just done a fabric swap with Maggie (@legs_benedict) and had a 1/2 yd of butterflies & fat quarter of playing cats that needed the perfect project.<br/>
<br/>
It started with a simple sketch (well, more of a doodle really). I decided that I wanted to do as much handstitching as possible so I pulled out my copy of <a href='http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1596687568'>"Handsewn" by Margaret Rowan</a> to get tips on smocking and buttonholes. <br/>
<br/>
I did serge the edges and machine stitch the hems to give the dress a clean look. Then I went searching online for a tutorial for hand pleating. I found Marie Grace Designs, which was really lucky because now the website seems to be down. :-(<br/>
<br/>
I used the American Honeycomb stitch for the smocking, in two colors. I chose to put the buttons on the front since the skirt (cat) fabric had to be seamed and it drove me crazy to think of that seam being in the front. I think it added a fun little touch to the dress.<br/>
<br/>
I made it big for her to grow into this summer, but unfortunately I made it too big and it won't fit her for another year or so. But at least it is too big and not too small! <br/>
<br/>
It was really fun to design & make this dress and in just a couple weeks too. Thanks Lizzy for the fun challenge! :-)<br/>
<br/>
And thank you for taking a look!<br/>

The nice thing about it is that she only wakes once during the night. When she was getting to bed earlier she'd wake more & it was a bigger fight to get her back to sleep again. She's like the Energizer bunny and just goes forever (or until she can barely keep her eyes open). She naps well during the day so I know she's getting plenty of rest.<br/>

<a href='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9Gv6M4X-bv0/UuCg2RoEh6I/AAAAAAAADMo/Yt8oCB_Ee5s/s2560/1390452941764.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-9Gv6M4X-bv0/UuCg2RoEh6I/AAAAAAAADMo/Yt8oCB_Ee5s/s288/1390452941764.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
But because of Ruby's late night parties I haven't had a chance for much stitching recently, but I have done a little. I've put a few more rows on my mom's Rocky Coast cardigan.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OSY9wdSNy-4/UuCg4gDmoOI/AAAAAAAADMw/jk7t8Q5YCos/s2560/1390452954436.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-OSY9wdSNy-4/UuCg4gDmoOI/AAAAAAAADMw/jk7t8Q5YCos/s288/1390452954436.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
Finishing my sister's socks rekindled my love of sock <br/>
knitting so I pulled out a year old WiP and hope to have some new merino/cashmere blend socks in another week or two.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DzhQ4KEi64I/UuCg7LiyFaI/AAAAAAAADM4/XavVTx8o9h8/s2560/1390452963616.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-DzhQ4KEi64I/UuCg7LiyFaI/AAAAAAAADM4/XavVTx8o9h8/s288/1390452963616.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I also finished the top to Ruby's Briar Rose Rainbow Quilt. It was such a fast pattern to put together and looks great. Rae (<a href='http://www.made-by-rae.com/'>Made by Rae</a>) designed the quilt and it showcases Heather Ross' fabrics perfectly!<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kwuhYe548Ow/UuCg-D5Hy8I/AAAAAAAADNA/7XQqr6X4lf8/s2560/1390452973139.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-kwuhYe548Ow/UuCg-D5Hy8I/AAAAAAAADNA/7XQqr6X4lf8/s288/1390452973139.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I will be tying it with perle cotton for now, but may eventually hand quilt it thanks to <a href='http://www.honeyhilldesigns.com/'>Katherine's</a> suggestion. :-)<br/>
<br/>
With all these WiPs I have going I hope to be able to show you some finished projects soon. Thanks for letting me share!<br/>

I guess I need to pay better attention when I'm using this app.<br/>

<br/>
Last week I mentioned wanting to finish my current x-stitch before I started a new one, but I broke down when I saw how cute The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery's new Once Upon a Time sampler is. Ruby & I have been reading a lot of fairy tales so I thought it was an appropriate distraction. <br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-JWWe1e6fVco/Utf_k-BKhVI/AAAAAAAADJE/kwmGpmOKklc/s2560/1389887346486.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-JWWe1e6fVco/Utf_k-BKhVI/AAAAAAAADJE/kwmGpmOKklc/s288/1389887346486.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
To prep for the new sampler I tea dyed some white aida cloth that I had on hand...<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-eHah_u8XdXM/Utf_qiCipvI/AAAAAAAADJM/6KxOMWZQATI/s2560/1389887382404.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-eHah_u8XdXM/Utf_qiCipvI/AAAAAAAADJM/6KxOMWZQATI/s288/1389887382404.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
...washi taped my hoop for more visual interest. And in true "make it work" fashion used some hoop earrings to hold my embroidery floss.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LdQbwZGOMp0/Utf_xdR7HNI/AAAAAAAADJU/CCu4JVYTW4I/s2560/1389887404000.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-LdQbwZGOMp0/Utf_xdR7HNI/AAAAAAAADJU/CCu4JVYTW4I/s288/1389887404000.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
It is a fun & quick stitchery and once I finish January I can get back to my ABCs of Aging Artfully until the February fairy tale comes out.<br/>
<br/>
My parents came out for a visit from Southern California this week, which was lots of fun! Mom & I took Ruby to a pottery shop over in Casper and made a couple belated Christmas gifts. Dad is getting a dish for his keys & wallet (pictured below), Grams Sally (Jake's mom) is getting a handprint plate, & I will finally have a yarn bowl!<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9WxdCQty2jM/Utf_2gOZZcI/AAAAAAAADJc/wHAF7O_hQWE/s2560/1389887431339.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-9WxdCQty2jM/Utf_2gOZZcI/AAAAAAAADJc/wHAF7O_hQWE/s288/1389887431339.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>

<br/>
I also finally started piecing my Briar Rose rainbow quilt. It's been cut for a while now, I just don't get upstairs to sew very often.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kSZzt-59eFQ/Utf_9M5zRyI/AAAAAAAADJk/Ep9l46f2ETE/s2560/1389887452113.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-kSZzt-59eFQ/Utf_9M5zRyI/AAAAAAAADJk/Ep9l46f2ETE/s288/1389887452113.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I did get my sister's fibonnaci socks done this week at least! I forgot to take a final finish picture before I sent them back with my parents, but I assure you they are done. :-)<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wN8e_-DbzbQ/UtgAMaZLs9I/AAAAAAAADJ8/W6xIQeixI2w/s2560/1389887512474.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-wN8e_-DbzbQ/UtgAMaZLs9I/AAAAAAAADJ8/W6xIQeixI2w/s288/1389887512474.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
Ruby turned 9 months old this week and is as busy as ever. She's very close to walking, but has been sidetracked by climbing and now jumping. I've started calling her Little Roo (Winnie the Pooh) because she loves to bounce so much!<br/>

She also loves her books! ♥<br/>

So I pulled out a WiP cross stitch that I started a couple years ago.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HZIqqTIHjoI/Us4pnbwDBbI/AAAAAAAADGE/7tAJv3wcuOE/s2560/1389242743639.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-HZIqqTIHjoI/Us4pnbwDBbI/AAAAAAAADGE/7tAJv3wcuOE/s288/1389242743639.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 216px; height: 288px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
I'm hoping to get it done soon so that I can start The Frosted Pumpkin Stitchery's <a href='http://thefrostedpumpkinstitchery.bigcartel.com/product/2014-sampler'>Once Upon a Time sampler</a> for Ruby. We've been reading a lot of fairy tales so this is perfect!<br/>
<br/>
I also finally started my mom's Rocky Coast cardigan. I've been putting it off because of all the cables, but the body was actually very fast to knit.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9QirSA9T844/Us4pvokAB5I/AAAAAAAADGM/bqR39l9d4Ds/s2560/1389242782238.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-9QirSA9T844/Us4pvokAB5I/AAAAAAAADGM/bqR39l9d4Ds/s288/1389242782238.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
Next up for the cardigan is sleeve island and then the collar. Hopefully the rest goes just as quickly. <br/>
<br/>
And finally, some fibonacci socks that I made for my sister as a Christmas present. (They still need the ends woven in, which is why I'm calling them a WiP.)<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-KiYO174xwdk/Us4p5Gj-hFI/AAAAAAAADGU/RClSM6sk4_M/s2560/1389242814923.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-KiYO174xwdk/Us4p5Gj-hFI/AAAAAAAADGU/RClSM6sk4_M/s288/1389242814923.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
The number of rows in each stripe are based on the fibonacci sequence; 1 1 2 3 5 8... My sister is a high school math teacher so I thought these would be appropriate. I also got her a pi shirt & math mug. :-)<br/>

The gifts have been shared, food has been enjoyed, & we're currently watching "A Bug's Life." Of course one of Ruby's favorite new toys is the box to my fabulous new Le Creuset kettle set, but she loves her mega blocks and is intrigued by the elephant shape sorter. She also got a great handmade soft book from Grandma & Grandpa.<br/>

<br/>
I also have to share the gorgeous new necklaces I received. The first is from <a href='https://www.etsy.com/shop/winemakerssister'>Winemaker's Sister</a> (hopefully the link works!) on Etsy, it is a spinning wheel charm and a stamped disc that says "SPIN". She has some beautiful jewelry and great stitch markers in her shop including Doctor Who, fairy tales, & bacon!<br/>
<br/>
The second necklace is a beautiful Stella & Dot pair of charms. One is an "R" for Ruby. The other is her April birthstone, which is diamond. Very simple and lovely.<br/>
<br/>

<br/>
I haven't quite finished the gifts I planned to make, but I'm pretty excited about the fibonnaci socks I'm making for my sister. We'll also be going to a pottery store in Casper soon for Ruby to paint some things for her grandparents!<br/>

<br/>
We went for a family walk last night at sundown. It was a little colder than we thought, but we were bundled up nicely.<br/>

I'm super excited about this because now I can work on my journal in spurts, as Ruby gives me time to. Then I won't have to pull out the computer (hoping that it's charged) and hide it away again before she gets her hands on it. ;-)<br/>
<br/>
Last night we had a gorgeous sunset so while I was out taking pictures I thought I'd also get some shots of where we live. In September I briefly mentioned that we moved to the other side of the ranch that Jake works for. We're still getting settled, but it was a good move. Since big game hunting season ended for the year (he guides for the ranch) he's been home a lot more and gets to spend lots of quality daddy/daughter time with Ruby.<br/>
<br/>
<a href='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7dgpIEwAHyk/Uq4N4-2d5LI/AAAAAAAAC_c/mTTopWGvxP0/s2560/1387138517482.jpeg' onblur='try {parent.deselectBloggerImageGracefully();} catch(e) {}'><img border='0' src='https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-7dgpIEwAHyk/Uq4N4-2d5LI/AAAAAAAAC_c/mTTopWGvxP0/s288/1387138517482.jpeg' style='display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;width: 288px; height: 216px;'/></a><br/>
<br/>
We now live 5 miles south of one of the smallest towns in the U.S.A.; Lost Springs, Wyoming, with a population of 4. We are 25 miles to the nearest gas station & 35 miles from groceries, libraries, and general town stuff.<br/>
<br/>
The above picture is of the old barn with Laramie Peak in the background. I haven't figured out how to get a good picture of the mountain yet, it actually appears much larger in real life from our place. <br/>
<br/>
Next is the old chicken coop...<br/>

<br/>
And the house...<br/>

<br/>
The house picture is from last month because I liked it better than last night's photo. ;-)<br/>
<br/>
And one more picture of the old barn from a few weeks ago. It's a little blurry, but I like how the pink of the sunset shows through the open spaces.<br/>
<br/>

Thanks for letting me share our "new" homestead!<br/>

The Blogger app had horrible recent reviews, but people seem happy with Bloggeroid so I thought I'd give it a go. <br/>
<br/>
I know I've been gone for a long, long time. What can I say? I'm definitely not tech savvy and terrible about blogging. Hopefully (if I even have any followers left) you all follow me on Instagram, especially since I haven't even introduced you to my little Ruby and she just turned 8 months old the other day!! And she is constantly on the go, if she's awake she's getting into something! ;-)<br/>
<br/>
So, here she is! My beautiful daughter, Ruby Verna. Born April 10th in the middle of a blizzard.<br/>

<br/>
Since I don't know if this post will actually work or not I'll keep it short, but if it does work I hope to do a lot more journaling this coming year. <br/>
<br/>
Thanks for sticking with me and I hope to chat again soon!<br/>

<br />
When I signed up to participate in the <a href="http://www.craftbuds.com/craft-book-month-2013/" target="_blank">Craft Book Month</a> blog hop I had NO idea that I would be in the middle of a move to a different part of the ranch! So this is going to be short & sweet so I can get back to unpacking. ;)<br />
<br />
<br />
Books & crafts both have a very important place in my life and I was so excited when Lindsay invited me back for another year.<br />
<br />
I chose a project from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Alabama-Studio-Sewing-Design-Hand-Sewing/dp/158479920X/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1378531640&sr=1-1&keywords=alabama+chanin" target="_blank">Alabama Studio Sewing + Design</a> because, since Ruby was born, I've hardly had any time to sit at my sewing machine. But I have been doing plenty of knitting and hand stitching. Natalie Chanin's designs are all about the art and love of hand stitching. She uses basic shapes for her patterns, but through the use of stencils, thread, & embellishments you can make unique clothing that is all your own! <br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-25A0lQ-fmCU/UiqzzN1YjaI/AAAAAAAAC88/_vSPGhJoIv8/s1600/20130906_192352.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-25A0lQ-fmCU/UiqzzN1YjaI/AAAAAAAAC88/_vSPGhJoIv8/s1600/20130906_192352.jpg" height="300" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
The projects and the photography are so beautiful and very inspiring.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
My interpretation is much simpler. I cut a <a href="http://www.shopwiksten.com/product/tank-top-sewing-pattern-downloadable-pdf" target="_blank">Wiksten tank</a> from a green rib knit then hand stamped a simple 3-flower pattern that I made.</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MMZ72oMSGeM/UiqzhJr2maI/AAAAAAAAC8k/WZHb7GH2cY8/s1600/20130906_190723.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-MMZ72oMSGeM/UiqzhJr2maI/AAAAAAAAC8k/WZHb7GH2cY8/s1600/20130906_190723.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
My favorite part is the stitching around the arms & neck.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ziSReJ6gnkg/UiqzmiGM0RI/AAAAAAAAC8s/-rX9nxYG4pg/s1600/20130906_190740.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ziSReJ6gnkg/UiqzmiGM0RI/AAAAAAAAC8s/-rX9nxYG4pg/s1600/20130906_190740.jpg" height="320" width="240" /></a></div>
<br />
I used the same green knit to make a Basic Poncho. I then cut leaves from a coordinating blue rib knit and hand appliqued them around the neckline. Of course, it's packed away in some box right now, but I will try to share a picture as soon as I find it. I also have a T-Shirt Top in progress in a lovely purple jersey.<br />

Jake took off this morning at sun up with his truck, trailer, and horse to gather some cows for work.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

And he came home just before sun down, which is rare. Normally I don't see him until after dark. <br />

So he got a little playtime with the corgi and then we went on a short walk.<br />

Although we were still able to do dishes and get drinking water from the tap, the septic had backed up into the shower & tub which made bathing difficult. So what did I do? Sponge bath on the porch!</div>

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I filled up a bucket, took it outside, and thanked God that it was 90 degrees and that we have no neighbors within 2 miles of the house. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Before I did that though I decided that if I did in fact have to take a sponge bath outside I was going to do so as luxuriously as I could with what I had. So I found a nice fluffy towel and some yummy smelling soap. I also found a <a href="http://myjewelthief.typepad.com/myjewelthief_knits/2008/12/doubel-bump-scarves.html" target="_blank">washrag pattern</a> and knitted myself up a new washrag for the occasion. It was a very quick knit (about an hour) with great texture and was an easy to memorize pattern.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>

<br />
<br />
It was actually kind of a fun experience and helped me realize what I can deal with, but I'm glad I don't have to do this on a regular basis. Especially in the winter time!<br />
<br />
<br />
So what does this have to do with this week's Stash Blaster? <br />
<br />
Well, I have lots of cotton yarn from when I was first learning to knit and with Baby Tuckey's arrival just a few weeks away I thought we could use more hand knit washcloths around the house. I whipped up these 4 in no time and have another one on the needles now. I'll probably end up making a giant stack of them and use them as gifts since I know of a lot of babies that are arriving this year! <br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dGETFHxtaTo/USuiQvwS3EI/AAAAAAAAC3k/z_l5gYRsLbg/s1600/IMG_4052.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="266" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dGETFHxtaTo/USuiQvwS3EI/AAAAAAAAC3k/z_l5gYRsLbg/s400/IMG_4052.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
Well, I don't have any handmade completed projects to share with you this week. Not because I didn't finish, but because it's a secret until the recipient receives it. :)</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
I did make progress on my Scrappy Trip Around the World. The blocks are ready to be sewn back together and the batting and backing are on their way! There's also been progress on a knitted baby blanket and another pair of adult socks.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>

<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Scrappy Trip-along strips ready to be sewn together</td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<br />
<br />
I also made some quick birthday cards for a couple birthdays that snuck up on me. It was fun to go through my old scrapbooking things to see what I had on hand, and to use up some of those tiny scraps that I just can't ever seem to get rid of.<br />
<br />

<br />
Mostly this past week has been dedicated to getting ready for Wiggles' arrival in a few weeks. <br />
<br />
Wednesday was my 33 week appointment and our first birthing class. I'm very happy that Jake was able to get the time off from work to go with me, he got to hear Baby's heartbeat again which is always fun. Then we (he) drove home in a snowstorm, so I'm extra glad that he went with me! ;)<br />
<br />
We've also been rearranging furniture and cleaning out closets to make room for everything.<br />
<br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
...and the winter clothes went into a closet that first had to be decluttered of older clothes we never wear anymore. Phew!!<br />
<br />
We (well mostly Jake) also moved all the furniture in our bedroom to make a nursery corner. Although our house has 3 bedrooms things just worked out better for Baby to sleep with us for now.<br />
<br />

I don't know if any of my old followers are still around or not, but I used to do a post called <a href="http://aprairiesunrise.blogspot.com/search/label/Sunday%20Brunch" target="_blank">Sunday Brunch</a> where I'd share a favorite recipe that I made that week. Looking back through my archives I just realized that it's been over a year (where the heck did 2012 go?!?) since I last shared my love of cooking on my blog.</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">

If you followed any of the recipe links above you probably noticed that they all are from <a href="http://www.tasteofhome.com/" target="_blank">Taste of Home</a>. I love my ToH cookbook because they have delicious, easy meals and use ingredients that you can actually find in rural America, where speciality markets don't exist. I've also heard good things about <a href="http://www.americastestkitchen.com/" target="_blank">America's Test Kitchen</a>, I'm just not sure which cookbook to try. <br />

For last week's project I decided to make Baby Tuckey a bonnet from <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Vintage-Modern-Babies-Hadley-Fierlinger/dp/1580089607" target="_blank">Vintage Knits for Modern Baby</a>. I used a skein of <a href="http://belmoral.com/Our%20Farm.html" target="_blank">Belmoral Shetland</a> wool that I received (along with other yarn & fiber) as trade for spinning some <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/sweetlittlelotte/8469140863/in/photostream" target="_blank">buffalo roving</a> for the owner of Wyoming Wool Works in Dubois.</div>

I chose <a href="http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/modern-baby-bonnet" target="_blank">this pattern</a> to be my first from this book because I loved the modern take on an older style cap and thought it would look great on either a boy or a girl. It still needs a button and I'm glad to have a lovely stash of vintage buttons to choose from. The pattern was well written and I was able to complete the bonnet in a few hours. The one complaint I have is I couldn't find a stitchionary in the book and since there can be different abbreviations for stitches I got a little confused on one of the decreases. Luckily I was able to figure it out and continue on.</div>

I also started a <a href="http://quiltville.com/scrappytrips.shtml" target="_blank">Scrappy Trip Around the World</a> quilt using my <a href="http://www.vanessachristenson.com/2012/04/v-and-co-my-fabric-line-with-moda.html" target="_blank">Simply Color</a> jelly roll. If you haven't seen the Instagram mania for this quilt you must, just search #scrappytripalong and see what all the hubbub is about!<br />
<br />
There's also a new yarn up in my <a href="http://www.etsy.com/shop/APrairieSunriseShop" target="_blank">Etsy shop</a> today. I'm not much for pink normally, but I added a couple splashes of purple and a tiny bit of teal and really love how the color turned out. It's approximately 86 yards of sport to DK weight and would make a great child's hat or pair of mitten, or maybe even a pair of wristers for you!<br />
