The Homestead

Well, Bloggeroid seemed to work great yesterday! I'm super excited about this because now I can work on my journal in spurts, as Ruby gives me time to. Then I won't have to pull out the computer (hoping that it's charged) and hide it away again before she gets her hands on it. ;-)

Last night we had a gorgeous sunset so while I was out taking pictures I thought I'd also get some shots of where we live. In September I briefly mentioned that we moved to the other side of the ranch that Jake works for. We're still getting settled, but it was a good move. Since big game hunting season ended for the year (he guides for the ranch) he's been home a lot more and gets to spend lots of quality daddy/daughter time with Ruby.

We now live 5 miles south of one of the smallest towns in the U.S.A.; Lost Springs, Wyoming, with a population of 4. We are 25 miles to the nearest gas station & 35 miles from groceries, libraries, and general town stuff.

The above picture is of the old barn with Laramie Peak in the background. I haven't figured out how to get a good picture of the mountain yet, it actually appears much larger in real life from our place.

Next is the old chicken coop...

The quonset huts and the old loading chute...

And the house...

The house picture is from last month because I liked it better than last night's photo. ;-)

And one more picture of the old barn from a few weeks ago. It's a little blurry, but I like how the pink of the sunset shows through the open spaces.

Thanks for letting me share our "new" homestead!

Five miles south of a town with a population of...4....? 25 miles from the nearest gas station and 35 miles from groceries..? I just cannot imagine.. I live in one of the most densely populated countries in the world (The Netherlands) and this just amazes me... It looks very beautiful, the pictures are lovely, like something out of a movie. Living in such a densely populated country as I do is really irritating at times, it gets to be too much quite often, the way you live is just the opposite, do you ever feel lonely out there?

Looking at your pictures I can hear the crunch of the snow and smell the air as I imagine walking from building to building. Although I love our place and the fact that it is newer I do wish we had some of the old homestead buildings. I don't dare get any other critters until I have better protection from the wind for them, and of course better fences. :)

It looks beautiful. I grew up in a small town and lived near a town with population 4. I was a country kid through and through. It's such a different experience to plan ahead and only buy groceries once a month or go to a big town on occasion. It sure makes one thankful for everything.
